  1. Thanks for the link...this was a great interview that I'd not read before! Sounds like Dennis is right where he wants to be in life...wish that we all could be so lucky!
  2. Could it be that they're (DDY and/or Rounder Records) intentionally holding up the release until after the Germany gig so they'll be able to promote the new CD in the US at the tiime of release? I admit, I'd be more likely to make a trip north for another DDY concert if I thought he'd be doing more new music. It was a real treat at the Taste of Blue Ash concert in July when he did three songs off the new CD. They were quite well received by the audience, most of whom I'd bet had never heard them before. I'm sure that was gratifying for DDY.
  3. =)) Very Funny! I have no idea who DDY would pick, maybe Paul McCartney? Or someone from the Ramones?
  4. I can't believe this isn't already on the site! There's an effort to elect "da man" as President! Just check out this link: http://www.tsgnet.com/pres.php?id=46832&am...mp;altl=EfZpvoh You all know who I'm voting for!! Terri
  5. During a radio call-in when word of the new album was just starting to spread (spring of 2006???) I asked Dennis if I could put it on my Christmas List. His response--"For What Year?" Little did I know.... Anyway, I purchased the Canadian version soon after it's release, but I'll still get the US version when or if it becomes available! I do agree with others though, this CD showcases some of DDY's best work and great depth of musical talent. Just my $0.02, tho! Terri
  6. WOW! FOUR YEARS!!!! I had no idea it'd been that long! Ron, thanks for all you do here...I only wish I had time to do more than lurk! Kudos! Terri
  7. OK, so, I made it "back to Chicago" for the show on 6/14 and I noticed some differences from opening night. Now, let me start by saying that I'm not sure how much was changed by the production and how much was due to my different perspective. Opening night I was in the back row towards the right of the stage; this last time I was front row practically center--don't ask me how we managed these seats, we were nowhere near the front of the line (did I mention that it was assigned seating on opening night but general admission this last time?). My oldest son, the one who's attended a couple of DDY concerts with me, Amy & her husband were walking across the front aisle to get to the other side of the theater when we discovered that half the row was empty & no one was holding the seats. so we snagged them! Now Amy likes to say that getting spit on by the actors was a problem. Me, I never noticed it. What I did notice was how much more part of the action we seemed to be! Making eye contact with the characters was really cool. (Practically being part of the swordplay, not so much!) As for differences, well most of the ones I noticed had to do with Frollo's character, but then he was the focus of my attention. There appeared to be more facial expression, maybe more time on-stage to help with the development of Frollo's fixation with Esmerelda. Since most of his entrances were from the right side of the stage, I'm not sure if he was there before and I just didn't see him. From my perspective, there were some character improvements that added to the whole performance. Also, from speaking briefly with George Andrew Wolf (Quasi) after the show, there has been some growth and to quote Mr. Wolf "this show is going places". I sincerely hope he is right! If I could somehow manage it, I'd go again before the current run ends. But that's me being greedy!
  8. Well, I'll try, but I'm really not much of a critic--I'm too easily entertained! Which is one reason I never listen to the published critics. That and I don't like to have anyone tell me what I'm going to like or dislike! Call me a rebel
  9. I think that's great! I assume DDY is given some recognition on it as well. And, hey, any exposure is good exposure!
  10. I know this is a little late, but, having seen both the Nashville & Chicago productions, I wanted to add my $0.02 worth of review. First I state the more obvious, Bailiwick's production utilizes a much more minimalist stage which at first put me off just a little; the Nashville theater was much bigger, with a much bigger budget and therefore a much more detailed stage. That being said, I was quickly caught up in the story in the Chicago production and really think the lack of distraction of the set itself actually helped. I think because of the minimal set, the cast & ensemble had to work even harder at being in character (whichever they were playing at the time) because they were so close to the audience. I mean, at times they were in the aisles, almost making us part of the action. As for differences between the 2 productions, let me say that, while I'm not 100% on this, I'm fairly certain that there were more than just 2 new songs. I don't remember Quasimodo's "In My Silence" nor do I remember Frollo's "If I Die". There was also a shift of the focus from the "perceived" 3 main characters to the story of Frollo's torment & descent to insanity. Without giving to much away, (spoiler alert!) I think this switch was most evident in the scene where Quasimodo is punished by order of the crown. His punishment is inflicted at the back of the stage behind a back-lit screen while Frollo's self-inflicted punishment is center stage. Frollo's end is also somewhat different from the Nashville production and I have mixed feelings about this change. Definitely in keeping with Frollo as the main character of this interpretation, but not completely true to the story. I can see the growth between this & the earlier Nashville production and I have to admit that, while I liked both, I think this is the better production. If you can make it to one of the upcoming performances, even if you have to beg, borrow, or steal (well, maybe not the last one) to do so, then I highly recommend you do so. It is well worth it, if only for the great score! Hopefully, they will be able to work out the kinks and get this production back on the schedule for the West Coast. Oh, and a cast album with all of the songs would be great! Terri
  11. I have to agree. GA has a powerful, rich voice and did a wonderful job as Quasimodo, particularly given the physical stance he had to adopt, but there was a twang or accent or something to his voice that I personally had trouble getting past. JR, on the other hand, had a very smooth voice, maybe not as booming as GA's, but the power was there when it needed to be. And the emotion! He had me in tears several times! Terri BTW - I'm ba-ack! (hopefully!)
  12. That's right! What was the name of the song Dennis & Glenn did in Atlantic City? "All for Love"? It was a great, rockin' song! I'd love to hear the rest of the album!
  13. Sounds like it was a great evening! Good think you called to inquire about the tickets. I've been away for a while, but have noticed several, um, comments about LaPointe. Did I miss something?
  14. Well, here I am again, a day late and (more than) a dollar short! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Terri (who's going to bed now that she's realized that she waited up til midnight to talk to her out-of-town college son after he gets off work at 11:30--except that she just remembered he gets off at 6:00 on Fridays UGH!!!)
  15. Thanks for posting the link. This was a real heart-to-heart, a real in-depth interview. Glad I actually had time to read it all! Terri
